Last week, we packed up and hit the road. As a family, we left early Saturday morning to go to Tooele, Utah. We relaxed for a day, then split up. Jeff and I went north with the younger kids up to the Grand Tetons, while Maddie and Jayd went south to EFY in Provo.
We had a great time in the Grand Tetons. We went on hikes along the ridge of a mountain, and following the river up the canyon. We rode in a boat across the lake to see a gorgeous waterfall, and swam in the lake being shadowed by mountains. We did all this in a day and a half!
The following day, we headed up to Yellowstone for the remainder of our vacation. We saw paint pots bubble and spew white clay. We looked at pools of the clearest blue surrounded by vibrant orange bacterial mats and snow white calcium deposits. We watched springs cascade down white tiered castle wall. We watched Old Faithful be true to it's name and erupt right on time. With all of the wonders to behold and see, none of them were our favorite area of the park. Our favorite was the Firehole River Gorge. Not only did the drive offer beautiful vistas of waterfalls rushing and washing over the rocks, near the end of the drive, there was a popular swimming hole. Just above the swimming hole, was a place where the river narrowed, making a swift current flowing through a deep gorge. A nearby rock that was only submerged by about 1 foot of water served as the perfect launching point into the river to be swept downstream in a torrent of water. It was quite exciting and a favorite hangout for our family. We went there every day we were in Yellowstone. It was a very fun, yet exhausting camping trip!
At EFY, Maddie was put into a group with several hearing impaired teenagers. She loved it! She came back signing everything that she said. She really learned a lot about sign language in that week. Jayd had a great time with his group as well. They learned a lot, made new friends and had fun.
