Zion's Camp

Last week Jeff and Jayd went to scout camp.  After arriving home at 2:00 AM on Sunday morning from Utah, they were up at 3:30 AM to leave for Scout camp on Monday morning.  Despite the quick turnaround, they had a fantastic time at scout camp.
Several stakes in the area arranged to have a Super Camp this year.  With multiple stakes involved, they created essentially two camps.  One was more of a typical Scout Camp with an emphasis on earning merit badges and rank advancements.  The other was a high adventure camp.  Jayd went to the high adventure camp.  They were grouped with some boys from other wards in our stake and a couple of big football players from Ojai.  They had so much fun!  Despite the fact that they went on the most difficult trail, Jayd fell in love with mountain biking.  While Jeff was relaxing in the pool to recover from the mountain biking that morning, the boys invented a new game to play in the pool. Jayd describes as a cross between water polo, tag, volleyball and football.  It sounded very physical.

They enjoyed going hiking and sleeping out under the stars.  Jeff enjoyed being one of the boys and beating them all at the high climbing challenge where they climbed on ropes strung 40 feet high in the trees (think of the Ewok village in Return of the Jedi with just cables between the trees).  They both enjoyed horseback riding.  Jayd said his horse just wanted to eat, and Jeff's horse was the laziest on the trail.    They ended the week with "Navajo Training" which was a souped up version of hide and go seek on the mountain.  They came home tired, dirty and happy.
